Spring Thaw

Spring Thaw by Ashby Carlisle

“Spring Thaw” is the beginning of Mud Season, one of my favorite times of the year.  Earth smells have been accumulating under a blanket of snow and explode into the air. Squishy footprints march to the compost bin. And mud mounds dot the lawn telling us that worms are hard at work preparing the soil. Above the thawing ground the sun begins to push through the cold winter air ready to be filled with the busyness of Man.  The plants, skeletons from last year’s party, are bending toward the light signaling a new spring party is about to commence.
